Placerville Hardware Turns 160 Years Old

When we have family and friends who come to visit they always like to go and we like to take them to downtown Placerville.

One of our favorite places to take them is into the Placerville hardware store.  All of the nooks and crannies are filled with treasures of old and even some of the newest gadgets of today that one feels they cannot live without.

So much history lies within the walls and floors of this hardware store which turned 160 years old this summer.  The sign on the outside of the shop reads “The oldest Hardware Store West of the Mississippi”.  The Fausel family has owned this store 60 of the last 160 years and when you walk into the store you really get the feeling you are back in the time of the Gold Fever.  To my understanding the floor is the same floor that was in the store at that period of time.

Gold panning is still very popular and with gold prices soaring people still believe they can strike it rich today.  If you would like to try your hands at gold panning this store has it all from gold pans, metal detectors and sluice boxes.  So if you want to give gold panning a try, be sure to stop in and pick up your supplies here and head to the river to try your hands at it.

Thank you Fausel family for keeping the nostalgia and history of the past alive in your store and Happy 160th birthday Placerville Hardware Store.
