December Holiday Events in Placerville, El Dorado County, Sacramento and Surrounding Areas

The Thanksgiving festivities (my favorite) are now behind us and the American holiday season is in high gear with shopping malls full of shoppers vying for the best deals on their favorite merchandise. The Christmas lights are starting to show up on houses and I am seeing people heading to the Sierra Foothills to pick up their fresh cut Christmas trees.

There are a number of upcoming fun and exciting events that are scheduled in and around Placerville, El Dorado County and the surrounding Northern California Counties in the month of December. The Westfield Downtown Plaza Ice Rink is open to the public through January 16th and is celebrating its 20th season as Sacramento’s original outdoor ice rink. Christmas comes to Placerville on Main Street during the month of December with a number of Christmas festivities for all. If you are looking for an Old Fashion Christmas then be sure to visit Christmas in Coloma on December 10-11 from 10am to 4 pm on each day. On December 10th the radio station KNCI will present; A Country Christmas featuring Montgomery Gentry, Chris Campbell, and Danny Gokey at the Powerhouse Balance Pavilion and be sure to see their web site for more details; http://kncifm.radio.com/

There are a number of ongoing events through the month of December that are worth mentioning and here are a few highlights. Nevada City will host a Victorian Christmas on December 7, 11, 14, 18 and 21st. The Sacramento Ballet will perform the Christmas special The Nutcracker at the Community Theater in Sacramento from December 12-23. In Old Town Sacramento they will kick off the holiday season with the tree lighting ceremony and a live staging of “Twas the night before Christmas” hosted by Mark Twain and these festivities will continue every night  through December 23rd. The Woodland Opera House will present Irving Berlin’s “White Christmas” musical through December 18th and you can visit their website for more details. The Grass Valley Downtown Association will host the Cornish Christmas Craft Fair on December 2, 9, 16 and 23rd from 6-9pm and you can also visit their web site for more detail. Be sure to mark your calendar for the California State Capital Holiday Musical Festival where they will provide live musical performances in the Capitol Rotunda each day through December 23rd. For those who like the old Dickens classic “A Christmas Carol”, you can take in a showing at the Sacramento Theatre through December 23rd. You can always find more information on these events by clicking on this link for more detail – December Events

As you can see there is plenty to do this holiday season and here is one more web site that I found that has a number of additional holiday events; http://www.sacramento365.com/categories/index/8/283.

Even though this is often a busy time for so many of us, please remember our soldiers risking their lives to protect our freedom and also be mindful of those who are in need during this time.
