Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Staff Sgt. Sky R. Mote who was killed in action in Afghanistan on Friday August 10th.
Sky was a graduate of Union Mine High School in 2003 and joined the Marines in July of that year. He was assigned to the 1st Marines Special Battalion based out of Camp Pendleton, and eventually became an explosive ordinance technician.
He was deployed for both Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom and was a decorated Marine who earned the Purple Heart, a Navy-Marines Corps Commendation medal, a Navy-Marine Corps Achievement Medal, two combat ribbons and three Gold Conduct medals.
He will be arriving today August 16th at McClellan Air Force Base at Hanger 3 at 4:30 P.M. From there a procession will travel east on Highway 50 to El Dorado Hills Blvd., up Serrano Parkway and left onto Silva Valley Parkway to pass Silva Valley Elementary and Rolling Hills Middle schools at approximately 6:30 P.M., then to Green Valley Mortuary.
If you can’t make this procession there will be another one on Sunday August 19th, starting at Blue Oaks Elementary school and then continuing on to Faith Episcopal Church 2200 Country Club Drive, Cameron Park.
Services will be held immediately after this procession.
If you can make either or both of these days, all are welcomed to line the streets with flags and banners in support of Staff Sgt. Sky and his family who gave so much for our Country.
